 Roatan Honduras
Restaurant Guide

There is good news and bad news about Roatan restaurants.

The good news is that they are very inexpensive and the value is very good. The bad news is that you need to sit back and relax and endure the very slow and in-efficient service. While there an abundance of restaurants of all types, there is a scarcity fine dining, gourmet restaurants that are available in other Caribbean Islands like St. Martin, Aruba, Puerto Rico or the Cayman Islands.

The reviews are based on local Roatan standards for fine dining.

The Best Roatan Restaurants

Argentinean Grille
This West End restaurant serves up outstanding food with good service at a reasonable price. Their tenderloin beef dishes are exceptional in taste and value. The Russian potato salad that comes with the entrée is sumptuous. Save room for the dessert, their black lemon cake covered with chocolate is outstanding.

Dian’s Garden of Eat’n
Excellent Asian fusion food dishes and excellent service by Roatan standards. Enjoyed the escargot and black bean soup appetizers and the entrees of curry lamb and pork tenderloin with black bean sauce. The coconut pie dessert was a nice ending to the meal. It’s outstanding, even by USA & European standards. The crust was a very tasty, soft pastry crust. Cash only.

Gio’s
Excellent king crab legs and seafood dishes. The king crab legs are caught locally and served fresh and cooked in a garlic sauce to enhance the taste. This place is popular with the locals and it is suggested you make a reservation for a table on the outside deck, otherwise you are likely to be seated in an inside dining room where one of them is not air conditioned.

The Light House
They offer good seafood and outdoor dining overlooking the harbor. Very inexpensive. Lobster tails and the Key Lime pie were excellent. Sit back and relax, the service is poor.

Luna Beach resort.
They serve up very good food with fresh ingredients and tasty preparations, service is good. Price is higher than most other Roatan restaurants but still good by Caribbean standards

Mangiamo Market and Delicatessen
Located in West Bay, this deli offers the best takeout sandwiches on the Island. The sandwiches are European/American made with fresh ingredients, cold cuts and bread. You can get an excellent Philly cheese sandwich here. They also have a variety of food for stocking your vacation kitchen.

Pura Vida
They offer good Italian food and meat dishes, with good service and price value.

Rick’s American Café
The best restaurant in Roatan. Located high on a hill top, this well maintained restaurant serves up a variety of fresh and locally caught seafood, meat dishes and burgers and sandwiches. You can expect to pay a higher price for their excellent preparations and very attentive and efficient service. A popular place for American ex patriots, they offer a special brunch on NFL Sundays to go along with the broadcast of games from the states. Their calamari appetizer, locally caught lobster, grouper and red snapper entrees, and the banana foster dessert are favorites.

The View
The View is located on one of the highest points in Roatan and overlooks both the north and south coast.

While the seating is outdoors with an awesome view overlooking the hilside and reefs, the tables are wood and utensils are placed on paper napkins. The reason to come to this restaurant is the view and the food, both are outstanding they offer a variety of seafood and meat dishes that are well prepared, fresh and tasty. The salads with fresh spinach and lettuce can be made up with shrimp, chicken. The steak is tender and tasty. Save room for dessert, their chocolate bred pudding is sumptuous. The restaurant is inexpensive and the service is good. Cash only.

Overrated Roatan Restaurants

Café Cannibal
Although the portions are generous and the price is good, the food is unimaginative and you are apt to have your dishes placed on a well used mating with food stains.

Mayan Princess Resort
Except for the lobster tails, the food and service is below average and the price is above average. The meals are not well coordinated, and the accompanying vegetables are apt to be cold when served. Their buffet breakfast, which is mostly for guests, is poor and they often run out of popular items like omelets and meats by 8:00 AM

Rudy’s
While their banana pancakes are decent, the other menu items for breakfast, lunch and dinner are below average. The service is painfully slow and inefficient, but the price is very reasonable.
